Simultaneously she has been involved in research projects such as "High Rise Study for the City of Ghent" and the "Transformation of the European neighbourhood of Brussels", which enable the office to feed the societal debate on mankind's environment. Șerban Sturdza
In high respect of nature and cultural value, arch. Şerban Sturdza animates a universe rooted in tradition and stated virtues. One can say that he is a “re” architect: restoring, regenerating, recycling, remembering and reiterating principles. With the clarity involved in the subsequent mental practice, Şerban Sturdza allows for spontaneity and naturalness through spatial, temporal and semantic continuity. He manages to activate and trigger fragments of his initiatives and desires, fragments which become paragons of professional practice: the conservation of traditional dwellings and memorial houses (the George Enescu House, Mihăileni, Botoșani), the conservation of cultural sites through the involvement of local communities and the preservation of genius loci (the wooden church in Urşi, Vâlcea, part of the “60 churches” program), the reanimation of traditional trades and crafts (“The crafts map”).He considers that “an evolving society is a society which leaves as its legacy more than what it has received” (Vicente Gallart), which leads him to reunite people and causes through reactive-constructive actions. He strongly believes in the continuous perfecting of young generations, endowed with energy, motivation, intelligence and mobility. To allow young generations to activate along with professionals is encouraging for them and endows this relationship with trust and a mutual respect for a job well done. Iulia Stanciu
I am an arhitect since 1987. Together with Florian Stanciu, we founded in 1996 the architectural office STARH. Some houses. Some interior design projects. Some awards.During these last few years, I’ve become toroughly involved in architectural restoration. I reached this point in my career purely by chance and I stayed because of an initially ethical calling. The urgency of recovering houses damaged and degraded by recent brutal interventions has offered me the initial sense of this activity. It was followed by the joy of discovering the deep craftsmanship of their conception. A perpetual lesson. And then the attempt to re-instate them today.I am teaching architectural design at the “Ion Mincu” Architecture and Urbanism University since 1991, with a doctoral thesis in 2007 on the subject of intermediate spaces and vague areas.
